I had never heard of the Melungeons before so I learned something new from this book. However, I thought the book was written mostly at a young adult level and the ending was unsatisfying - will not reveal it unlike other reviewers who give away plots of the books they review. If a reader is interested in Appalachian history, they will find this book informative. I did not like all the descriptions of hunting animals. Of course, that is the way these people had to survive but I don't like to read about animals being killed either by hunters, factory farms or otherwise.Product details

If you like Jesse Stuart you will love this touching tale of a valley man marrying a beautiful Melungeon woman against all odds.
Their life on Sanctuary Mountain in Tennessee is a powerful story of love, life and prejudices.
one of Jesse Stewart's best
this book is a no. 10
Best novel I have ever read, could really relate to it. Love it.
Daughter of the Legend is the best book I have ever read. There is love, suspense, and great sadness.
Its a book I will read over and over again. The child that was left behind I wonder were his ancestors are today.
I worry about this baby. How could anyone just walk away.
Very well written. A quick read.
Interesting story of the Melungeon society, their customs & origin..Beautiful love story with a predictable ending. The descriptions are intricate, providing a vivid "picture" of locale. Good read
